SlideShare is a presentation hosting website that helps to reach audiences beyond meeting rooms and classrooms. Services accessed depends on whether one signs up for a free version or a commercial version. Generally, it offers the opportunity to upload and share slides of documents and videos with a wider audience.
The search button enables visitors to locate host of slides that have been uploaded on the website by other people where one can play, share on other social networks, or download for modification. For instance, searching "Instructional Tools" pulled up slide shows that have been tagged as such, including the resourceful Top 100 Tools for Learning 2012. I was also able to locate slides relevant to Art teaching as well as those of my personal interest.
With the advent of teacher-created websites for classrooms, the traditional way of using expensive projectors for presentation will soon become a thing of the past. Both teachers and students can now upload slides and embed the link on their blogs and wikis where they can be accessed. it must however be noted that slides made with the Apple's Keynote presentation software cannot be uploaded onto the SlideShare website at the moment. Slides of students' projects uploaded onto the website would serve as a portfolio and as a way of initiating discussion on a topic. It also presents another opportunity establish collaboration with experts on a topic.
