2.1 Content Standards & Student Technology Standards
Candidates model and facilitate the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences aligned with student content standards and student technology standards. (PSC 2.1/ISTE 2a)
Artifact: Engaged Learning Project, ITEC7400.
Reflection:
This artifact was created to actively engage 12th grade students in creating theme-based picture. It is a plan that was followed to ensure that students collaborate in research while having the opportunity to also express what they can do individually. It is a plan that aligns with the state performance standards, and with assessments tailored to measure these standards. With this plan, I was able to guide students to use technology in mastering the state performance standards.
The artifact meets the PSC standard 2.1 that requires facilitating the design and implementation of technology-enhanced learning experiences that aligns with students content standard and student technology standards. Students made extensive use of the internet in obtaining images as reference materials for their drawings, and as means to gain access to art galleries that were not readily available in their physical environment. While obtaining images from online resources, students were made aware of copyright issues and how to effectively collaborate online with their peers. These are the requirements for the standard 5 of the NET-S.
Students were able to create individual artworks with different types of medium that they practiced with as part of the activities for the project and as a requirement for the state performance standard.
The students had the option to select an art-making and technique for their individual projects. I would have been appropriate to have students practice with all the media and techniques gathered from the research before specializing in only one of them. Online exhibition also offered the opportunity to practice sharing information on the internet having the artworks viewed by audience beyond the school boundaries. Having a traditional exhibition in the school would also have added more audience as not everyone is expected to have access to the internet.
