Artifact: Literature Review, ITEC7470.
Reflection:
The artifact is a literature review on the effectiveness of teaching K-12 art online. The literature review was conducted during the Educational Research class (ITEC7470) that prepared students to be able to use the knowledge and skills gained in research methods to help identify problems in educational practices and make recommendations based on what research has proven to be successful. In the review, I sought to identify some of the problems in online learning and they apply to art teaching in particular. The topic connected to my professional practice as an Art teacher and the attempt to help provide access to Art instruction to all students.
The Literature Review demonstrates the standard 6.1 as it is based on the continuous practice of observing and implementing best practices that involve the use of technology in the classroom. With emerging technologies ever improving instructional practices and student learning, it was necessary to find out how they apply to art learning so that I could use my position as a technology coach to make recommendations for other art teachers and to influence any decision-making that seek to improve student learning in all educational programs.
The review further my understanding of the importance of technology integration in the classroom and the problems online students face. The problems were identified through the surveys conducted by researchers whose scholarly articles were referenced during the review. No literature was identified on the use of fully online models to help students learn about the visual arts. Such literature would help make recommendations not only for technology integration in art classes but also to provide access to education for students who do not have art programs in their schools.
The Literature Review relates to my professional practice as an art teacher, and as such the content triggers discussions on how the faculty can receive funding and professional learning programs to improve instructional practices and student learning within the visual arts department.
