3.6 Selecting and Evaluating Digital Tools & Resources
Candidates collaborate with teachers and administrators to select and evaluate digital tools and resources for accuracy, suitability, and compatibility with the school technology infrastructure. (PSC 3.6/ISTE 3f)
Artifact: Emerging Technologies, ITEC7445.
Reflection:
The artifact is a slide presentation of the emerging technologies project that sought to select and evaluate digital tools and resources that would be suitable for the school district.
The project involved looking at the content of the district's technology vision and identifying the kind of technology among the emerging ones that could be used to realize the vision of the district. Cloud Computing was identified as an emerging technology that could be used to realize each part of the vision. Cloud Computing was identified as a technology for promoting engaged learning, it is a next generation tool, promotes equitable access, its providers offer safety tips, can extend learning beyond the classroom, promotes collaboration, it is utilized in online learning, promotes secured communication between education stakeholders, promotes both formal and informal professional learning, and it is cost-effective.
This project exposed me to other emerging technologies in education and how some educators are already using the technologies. These technologies included mobile learning and 3D printing. This project, for the purpose of reference, did not indicate the advantage Cloud Computing has over other technologies in realizing the district's technology vision.
