Artifact: Vision Paper, ITEC7410.
Reflection:
This artifact spells out the vision for technology use in my school for the period of 2013–2016. It was developed as part of ITEC 7410 class and as a way to help the school community stay focused on how to use technology to improve teaching and learning within the stated time frame.
The artifact is in line with the requirement for candidates to facilitate the development and implementation of a shared vision for technology use in the school. It was designed in reference to the district technology plan while the role of the students, teachers, and the community in achieving the goals of the school are clearly stated.
Undertaking the project offered me the opportunity to know what it takes to develop a vision for technology use in schools. I learned that the school had no stated vision for technology use in achieving students’ learning goals. A research on the impact of the suggested technology on teaching and learning was an important exercise to undertake. Perhaps, more in-text citations would have enriched the artifact for readers to know what the research says about the impact of the stated technologies on teaching and learning. The involvement of educational stakeholders in designing such school projects was another important thing that I learned.
With this project, my school now has a clearly stated vision for technology use. The attempt to develop the project to be in line with the district’s vision for technology use offered the opportunity for some teachers to become aware of the existence of the district technology plan.
