Artifact: SWOT Analysis, ITEC7410.
Reflection:
This artifact breaks down and analyzes the essential conditions necessary for leveraging technology implementation as pertained in my school. Each aspect of the conditions was analyzed in terms of the school’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities available, and threats that might hinder any improvement on the conditions. Under each condition is also a summery with noted gaps that need to be filled in order to leverage technology implementation. Besides being part of the requirements for the ITEC 7410 course, the project was aimed at finding ways to improve technology use in my school.
The artifact is an evidence of how the analysis of technology use in my school was designed and developed, with the result serving as a reference for a later stage in the technology planning process- Action and Evaluation. The process enabled me interact with the school community on finding out the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and the threats that impact technology use. I identified gaps that need to be filled. As a candidate for Instructional Technology, Standard 1.2 requires that I facilitate the design and development of a project like this and ensure that it is implemented. I am expected to communicate with the stakeholders in developing the project and sharing the results. The fact that the project also involved evaluating how technology is used in the school makes this artifact a perfect fit for Standard 1.2.
Stakeholder involvement was a major lesson drawn from undertaking the project. They help in identifying issues faced in technology implementation and offer suggestions on what needs to be done. The project offered the opportunity for teachers and staff to table what they can do to improve technology use in the school. Equally, it enabled some teachers to air any reservations they have concerning technology use. Perhaps the stakeholder communication a little more formal would have gone a long way to improve this artifact.
This artifact has laid the foundation further decision-making that has to do with school improvement. It will serve as a resource for some of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats that existed in the schools as at the time the project was undertaken.
